I sense a return to our roots in many ways. Living off the land is obviously a great idea. How long before I have chickens and pigs running around my backyard?

Enjoyed the article. For those interested in a good investment regardless of inflation/deflation I strongly recommend ..... topsoil. Sure I've got gold and cash and some stocks... but my big investment of 2009 is topsoil, a greenhouse and 30 dwarf fruit trees. I also plan to lay up about 1000lbs of fertilizer. Got food?

Thanks for the kind remarks, Bukko. Great job side-stepping the storm, and also staying informed even though you're probably well-off enough to rest on your laurels. That's what I call IMPRESSIVE.

I have told scores of people to read Mish's site every day. It is Step 1 in terms of knowing what's going on. I am amazed at how many people just stick their head in the sand, or rely on CNBC (yikes) or are cavalier about losing their money. Keep what you have and pay off debt and you'll be in pretty good shape.

Stay in touch. My email is StephenLMoyer@aol.com.

Hey StevieMo -- it's always interesting to see a website from a fellow Mish aficionado. I've been glued to him since January 2008. I don't post on the comments, because there are so many that I can't keep up with the flow. (I have a job and a life, after all!) Plus, as a left-winger, my political take would be out of place there.

That said, I've appreciated the comments you make on Mish. There's a lot of hard-core, anti-human libertarians there. You strike me as one of the humane types. Plus, as a political exile who used to live in San Francisco (almost at the foot of the hideous Sutro TV antenna tower, but damn, did our house have a glorious view over the Sunset District and the ocean) I like your 49er avatar. Although Black Swan is my favourite commenter -- I learn more from him than Mish -- I also like the links that you and JoJo (he's from the SF Bay area too, I think) post.

My wife and I are well-set financially, from selling our view house at the peak of the bubble and cashing out her Cali. state worker pension back when it was still worth something. We're in a good country, although she really misses S.F. I read Mish not for financial advice, but for education and to get a sense of where things are going in the world. The stuff you and other non-wingnut people post is a help to me in that, even if you don't always get feedback. So keep up the good work!

By "audit" I mean find out what the hell the Fed is doing with our money.

Ultimately, I think the Fed should be abolished and money moved towards the free market, or at the least returned to a Constitutional basis.

International bankers having an unchecked, extremely secretive government-granted monopoly on the currency and credit system is surely NOT the answer.
