Five Thoughts on Approach
With the credit markets being roiled, real estate looking like a potential bust equation, and general worldwide turmoil starting to peek out from a number of directions, it is always important to stand back and reevaluate your approach to finance, investing, work, and daily life. There is never a better time than now to reshuffle the deck and refresh your approach to investing and life in general.
1. Always give effort - regardless of surrounding circumstances, those who work hard to overcome challenges, learn more, better themselves and prepare will be better off than those who failed to expend the effort.
2. Always learn from experiences - there is no better way to tackle future challenges than by learning from present and past issues. Take obstacles as learning lessons and come back ready for the next encounter with zest.
3. Understand that mistakes are okay - there is nothing worse than destroying yourself and your spirit because you can’t let go and move on from a mistake you made in the past. Mistakes happen. That is life. Learn from it, work hard, and move forward.
4. Perform diligence - part of the process of achieving long-run success is performing the diligence needed to ensure that your effort, your hard work, is also smart work. Try not to assume out-of-hand that things are what they seem on the surface. As we all know, there can be a lot of curve balls, but many mistakes can be eliminated through deeper study.
5. Take responsibility - take ownership of your own actions, decisions and outcomes and advocate for others to do the same. In spite of much simple-minded rhetoric to the contrary, you control a great deal of the outcome that will come towards you. Understand you do not control everything, but work to free yourself as much as possible by taking responsibility for your actions and long-run well-being.
In spite of how hectic things can get, there is a always bright side. Stay up and stay on the search for learning experiences and wisdom, and your future will undoubtedly be brighter.
